In all my years reading, I have come across different types of readers and they never cease to amaze me.
In no particular order, here they are.
1. Motivation/Business
This generation of readers has basically being divided into two main factions: Fiction lovers and Non-fiction lovers, also known as business/motivational people. These are the snobbish types of readers. They think they read actual 'books' while the non-fiction/romance people read 'drivel'
They are the first to buy every popular business or motivational books that gets released and will never be found in the fiction section.
2. Romantic Bubbleheads
These ones can die for fiction/romance. Their very life is romance books, they cannot do without romance book. Give them one non-fiction book and it will take them years to finish it but they will read all the stories used as examples inside.
They believe in love too much and though these people are mostly women, some guys can be found here too, even though everyone will be looking at them like aliens.
3. Anything Goes
These are versatile readers. They can read anything, anything at all. Give them fiction, they will read, give them non-fiction, they will read, give them a textbook, they will read. These people don't put emotion ahead of their reading. As long as they have decided to read a book, they will read it. Nothing else.
4. I want to Read
They always want to read. Every time they see somebody reading, they will start promising to read. They will even ask for recommendations and go as far as collecting books. Some will read page one and then start snoring. When they wake up, they will keep the book carefully and repeat the next day until the book leaves in a puff of rage. Yet, they seriously think of themselves as readers.
These people flood my timeline every time I update on the number of books I have read so far and ask for tips and recommendations. For where?
5. Busy Bee Readers
These ones used to read so much when they were kids, teenagers, in high school or probably university. Suddenly, work and kids have become a book hindrance. When they see other readers, they will tell them their book history and smile with nostalgia, making bold promises of how they will start reading again.
Until the kids start crying or they get to the office the next day.
6. Book-Blind
These are the people who have never, ever, in their entire life, picked up a book to read except their academic books. They get blind around books. When they see readers, they will shake their heads and look at them with wonder in their eyes.
They always ask these questions: 'What are you even reading sef? When do you find time to read anyways? Why are you reading? Are you jobless? Why don't you see the movie?'
Booklovers, don't dare laugh out loud or curl your hair if you're reading in their presence. They hate seeing you enjoy reading. It is a personal affront to them and could elicit rage. Please be careful.
